January's PPL - Time to Link YOUR Terza Rima!
Well, this month's form for Pensieve's Poetic License DID prove to be a bit of a challenge, but I tell ya, rhymezone.com was a BIG help...sometimes just seeing a list of words inspires me.
Terza Rima isn't really that difficult, but it doesn't flow as seamlessly as other poetic forms. With its rhyming pattern, you could go on forever if you aren't careful! Plus, the themes--favorite snack foods and beginnings? You could go a thousand directions with them.
Just for the sheer challenge of it and to show you how easy it is (and because apparently I'm a poet geek), I wrote two poems; one inspired by my recent prison series, the other by Snackalicious Super Dishes. You can tell which one I had more "fun" with...but truly, both of them were enjoyable to write.

Life is a series of choices to make
Consequences linger no matter what
Poor decisions result in painful wake
Reality strikes as each door slams shut
Rebellion? Regret? Defiance? Remorse?
Hopelessness can become the deepest cut
Decisions continue, alter life's course
Choose wisely because it's never too late
Hope found in God, supernatural source
Dwell on the circumstance, easy to hate
Fierce battle, at stake, soul, mind and heart
Surrender, redemption, eternal fate.
New life begins, a clean slate, a fresh start
Kingdom's grace, taste divine, love's seal impart.
Who can spell it without Webster's aid?
The French are so pretentiously absurd!
A thousand calories just for a look!
Especially with sugar and butter they're made.
Cute bite-sized, finger foods, good for snackin'

All you need are recipes tried and true
Then cook up your own dishes lip-smacking!
Yummy recipes, can't wait to see YOU!
I have to admit, this one sure stumped me. But I tried really hard to stick to the rules. I promise. Just maybe the subject was a little off.
I love your efforts. Especially the way you linked the recipes in the second one. You are so clever.

I liked your poems! Way better than my brain could come up with....I agonized until way late last night and dashed mine off in a half hour. I will probably become a regular, it's good brain-ercise!

How fun! Those are fantastic poems! I just realized that for as proud as I am of doing mine, I completely forgot that you had "themes!" LOL Oh, well. Winter can be kind of a "beginning" theme, right? ;0)

Wonderful! The first is awesome and I can't believe you wrote a sonnet about snacks (or Hors d'oeuvre for that matter....btw, just copied that from your spelling above because I didn't want to go look it up). Just making rhymes of them was difficult enough for me.

I agree with everyone, this one was a tough one. I actually managed to forget all about it, so I cranked mine out in about 10 minutes just now...not the greatest, but I'm pretty sure it sticks to the rules! ;-)

Excellent poems as always. I loved line about hopelessness becoming the deepest cut - very true when you lose hope things get very dark. The second one was great it made me laugh especially the thousand calories just for looking, very true! I can feel my hips growing just thinking about them :)

Warning: Do not read unless you're current with all prescribed anti-depressants. (If you're thinking "Stephen didn't write his poem about 'beginnings' or 'snacks'" treat yourself to some ice cream. And if you want to preserve the delicate balance of the poetic universe, make sure to invoke the "beginnings" theme as well by scooping from an as-yet-unopened carton.)
