Adoration

The past t40orlessatpensieveltgreenouches the future in a grandfather's loving touch.  In an ideal world, the influence of grandparents shapes and gives flight to a child's dreams and imaginations in ways never intended for parents themselves.  I suppose I romanticize the notion of grandparents--though I only knew my father's mother, we were close before her death, and when I dream of "home", the house is hers.

This sculpture, aptly named "Grandfather", is found outside Rembrandt's in the Bluff View Arts District of Chattanooga.  It is one of my all-time favorite pieces of art.

For sale to the highest bidder: ME?!

File this under one of the coolest things that has happened to me since I started blogging publicly two years ago:

An artist stumbled across a vintage photograph of me at age four, then wrote to request permission to paint--and sell--her rendition of the picture.  I was a bit skeptical at first, but after spending some time at Kay Crain's site, I was not just sold--I was honored!  When she sweetened the deal by offering to paint an 8x8 mini painting for me, there was NO WAY I could say no!

It's obvious Kay delights in her craft; her portraits communicate striking personality and her landscapes draw you in.  This R.N. by day is gifted in capturing the mood of the photos she copies, and more often than not, whimsy and nostalgia leap of the canvas.  I would LOVE to meet Kay face to face--her enthusiasm and joie de vivre in her emails tells me we'd get along swimmingly :).

Tonight, beginning at 8:00 p.m. CST, you may begin your bidding on "Beach Buddies" (Ebay link won't work until then).

How much do I love that my kids told me to read this?

No additional comments necessary...this is a riot!
