Cheers to the Imagineers! Friday's 40 PC, #18

If I was a 13-year-old girl, I would say "I pink-puffy-heart everyone who commented to yesterday's 'Identity Crisis' dilemma."

I'm definitely NO 13-year-old, but I AM a girl, and "I pink- puffy-heart you" seems to fit. 

Your suggestions for Rachel's "no-name kitten" made me smile... every.single.one.!  Rach had a seven-mile cross-country practice yesterday and tons of homework to deal with when she got home, so she has yet to see your comments.  I told her the few I remembered, and she was lovin' so many chimed in.  I was crushin', too...especially since there were several first-time commenters who shared their thoughts!

Identity crisis: the no-name kitty

My family needs your help...this kitty needs your help!

First, though, the photo below is Friday's 40-word-or-less Photo Challenge.  Really, truly, does his impish face not compel you to write SOMETHING???  If you decide to play along (details by following the link if you're new to Friday's 40 PC), please register your post with Mr. Linky tomorrow.

Back to our dilemma:  it's not that he doesn't have a name, exactly; it's that he's already had a dozen names and we can't settle on one!  Let's go down the list:  He came to us as "Duke" (are you kidding me?  there's not a "Duke" bone in his body!), and though we first named him "Nelson" (after the band Hawk Nelson), Rachel decided that wasn't right for him either.  We've tried:

• Pooh (he had a problem with noxious emissions when he was on Science Diet, since remedied)
• Tigger
• Rascal
• Rosco
• Tricksy
• Sparky
• Fred
• George
• Leroy
• Scamper
• Kat

...there are others, but my children aren't home to remind me (our dull imagination when it comes to kitten-naming makes you pity us, huh?). He's sweet & purr-y & playful, and every night he finds amusement in hunting, chasing, then playing with unsavory bugs to their dismembered demise (to date?  crickets, grasshoppers, BIG, HONKIN' SPIDERS, and cicadas) (there are still spider legs in my garage...). 

So...ideas?  Suggestions?  At this point, everything we try is laughable.  Surely, there is some great name we've overlooked.

Paper, air & planes

Friday's 40-words-or-less Photo Challenge is back, and I can tell ya already, this photo prompt blesses my heart to the point of explosion.  To see my 11-year-old MIDDLE SCHOOLER delight in the most simple of toys?  Just paper and fuel propelled by imagination; when his paper airplanes soar, so does this mama's heart.

How could I not write a poem for this week's Friday's 40-word-or-less Photo Challenge?  If you could've seen this kid in action, you'd agree he was poetry in motion!

I love this picture of my young teen son "falling with style".  There's a wonderful creek just out of view of our back yard, and this summer has been the Year of the Rope Swing.  Friends and family have relived the glory of youth (technically, most STILL are youth) swinging off precarious branch into the murky depths.  When necessary, I police them with a screeching "YOU CAN'T DO THAAAT!!". 

They like it better when I don't go with them.

Sk8er BoiFriday's 40 PC, #15

Apparently, I'm much like a newborn babe, but instead of getting my days and nights reversed, I don't know what day of the week it is, which is actually not anything like a newborn babe, but I think you get my drift regardless.

If you can follow that stellar introductory sentence, consider yourself a linguistic savant.

A gentle reminder found its way to my inbox letting me know I had yet to post a Friday's 40 picture.  Oopsie!  While part of me would like you to believe it was intentional, the truth is with kids back in school, I'm slowly returning to routine, but in so doing, I simply forgot. 

My heart is touched that anyone would notice, so I chose an extra special picture in hopes that several would join in at the last minute.  This is yet another sculpture in the Bluff View Arts District of Chattanooga, and my response is below; it's not original, but it's what I think every time I see this guy.  Gosh the artist captured his movement perfectly, don't you think?

Ssslithering sssneaky sssnakesFriday's 40 PC, # 14

Pretty snakes in captivity don't scare me a bit--

Whoa, Gertie--hold it right there!!  I bet the majority of people reading that opening sentence think there's nothing "pretty" about a snake.  These are my friend Paige's pet snakes, and they wouldn't hurt a flea.  A mouse, definitely, but not a flea, or more importantly, ME!  I'll have to go back to her house to take reallyREALLY good pictures sometime, but for now, I loved this one for this week's Friday's 40-or-less Photo Challenge. 

I hope the image didn't scare you from writing a response--remember, it doesn't have to be a literal take on the picture; I went with the abstract this time...decidedly darker.  One look at snakes and my mind inevitably wanders back to the Garden.

What is Friday's 40 Photo Challenge?  Each week I'll post a photograph that begs your response.  You have up to 40 words to share your impressions from the photograph--it can be as simple as a one-word caption or title, or as complicated as a limerick (which answers the question of why I chose 40 words as the cut-off--it assures enough words for LIMERICKS!  MY FUNNEST-FAVORITE poetic form :) ).

The not-so-bitsy spider crawled up my outside wall

His beady eyes and creepy legs, my skin began to crawl!

Off came my shoe and smacked that sucker flat--

That not-so-bitsy spider ain't nevah comin' back!
